Lucretia Mott

A quilt square stitched with peaceful love.

Presented in its entirety.

“Quakerism captures the essence of peace. Of the dignity of the human spirit. It is the landmark of a new civilization coming from behind the scenes.  Women’s suffrage was hard fought.  And the push to repeal the 19thAmendment was not just fought in the earthlands. It was instilled with a fervor of Light from here at the same time.  I and sisters of not just Earth faith gather together here, much the same as these wonderful male visionaries, to bring you a message of something we hope you will listen to and, most especially hear!

Human rights. Despite our wrongs in living our lives, the idea of peaceable freedom was ever on my lips. I have been given a burial ground nearly like the Native Americans in their quest for recognition.  In the Philadelphia plot where my old bones have become dust and dirt and no more, I sit atop a world you play in now.

I watch and am in shock at the desire for destruction—so fond of by some rulers of lands across the Earth. It is with great dismay I find my voice quietly becoming louder and perhaps compelling in terms of a message I hope you read. One I hope you will believe.

The stanzas of your song represent a distinct form of abolitionism, yet they still point to the eradication of much more than you realize from the peak you currently occupy in your life. This eradication affects the soul tapestry that the stitchers of our quilt [of written wisdom] are committed to creating for you in this moment before the clock strikes. Soon, you will stand firmly resolved in a second presidency that appears neither loving nor peace-seeking.

We see absolution of the irresponsibility in your forging forward with your desires and dreams for America and in reshaping the contours of the world! I cannot but cry, ‘Why?’

By not shedding the skins of discontented old policies, craters of doubt by your nation and the world are so large and unwalkable.

You are bound in your vision, walking forward to fashion a new America.  But not one that shines with the greater resolution of healing age-old conflicts and promises of comfort.

How do you think your countrymen and countrywomen feel? Perhaps anger?  Angst?

Seneca Falls is a museum dedicated to Women’s Rights, and the stories are interwoven by several of us, such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton. We decried the action of voicing platitude and prophetess for the causes of women in the United States.

I worked not just for the sake of white women; I felt suffrage was desperately needed for those in the ghettos of longing. And it remains so.

How can we best serve America, not in the mindset of anger but of peace?

The ways of the Quakers lie in the deep desire to live in peace, not conflict.  To manifest the soul of worth as human beings, not from paper decrees, but by breathing love and non-violence into our minds and hearts as we take the footsteps of our earth journeys.

President-elect Trump, I urge you to reflect deeply and let that possibility sink into your consciousness.

How can I assist you?”

In the spirit of Peace,

Lucretia
